The Open Enrollment period for Benefits Eligible Employees will take place from Monday, September 21, 2020 through Friday, October 16, 2020. 

Just for the Health of It! The health and wellbeing of our employees is important, and we encourage you to make sure your benefits work for you. The District is committed to offering benefits and plan options to cover your individual and family health needs.

During the Open Enrollment period, employees may enroll-in, change or cancel Health, Dental, Vision, FSA Health Care Account, FSA Dependent Care Account, FSA Transit, FSA Parking, or Voluntary Benefit Plans such as Supplemental Life Insurance, Buy-Up Long-Term Disability (LTD), MetLife Critical Illness, Group Accident and MetLaw Legal Plan.

Any changes made during the Open Enrollment period will be effective January 1, 2021. 

Due to current Shelter-In-Place Order, CalPERS does not provide any On-Site Benefits Fair. Instead, the District is partnering with Lockton, Insurance Broker, to host a Webinar Event for 2021 Open Enrollment Informational Meeting via ZOOM scheduled on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 from 1 - 2 PM. Specifically, the focus is to assist Full-Time contract employees towards their online election for 2021. Following the Webinar, the presentation will be published via PowerPoint. 

Mandatory Online Enrollment for Benefits Plan Year 2021:  Benefitfocus has replaced SECOVA as the new Benefits Online Enrollment Systems.

  • To access Benefitfocus online, Login from Single Sign-On - myportal.fhda.edu. This appears under both Faculty and Staff pagelet.
  • You are to elect and confirm your CORE benefits including Medical/Dental/Vision coverage
  • You are required to designate your PRIMARY beneficiaries and/or optional Secondary beneficiaries for District-paid Group Term-Life.
  • You must elect annually for FSA Health Care and/or FSA Dependent Care if you would like to participate.
  • You may participate in voluntary benefits such as Supplemental Life, Buy-Up LTD, Critical Illness, Group Accident and Metlaw Legal Plan.
  • Access to the Portal on or after September 21, 2020 but before 5pm on October 16, 2020 to change your benefit elections. For optimal viewing, access the portal using Chrome or Firefox.

Full details on health plans options are available at https://www.calpers.ca.gov/.  You will have the option of enter your zip code to find out which plan options are available to you. It is very important to find out beforehand if your doctor accepts the plan you select and make sure he/she is accepting new patients.

For 2021 election, if you do not wish to make any changes to your medical, dental, and vision, you still must log in and make sure the election is correct. If you wish to continue enrollment in the Flexible Spending Account and/or Health Care/Dependent Care Programs, you are required to re-enroll online annually. To enroll in Supplemental Life insurance and/or make changes to level of existing coverage, you must elect coverage online via BenefitFocus and complete Hartford application online right after you confirm your BenefitFocus election prior to the deadline of October 16, 2020.  Hartford reserved the right to underwrite the policy. Additionally, if you wish to participate in MetLife Voluntary Benefits (Critical Illness, Group Accident, and MetLaw Legal Plan) for the first time, you must enroll online.  

Important Reminder: When adding new dependents online, you must also upload CalPERS form HBD-12 and ALL required documentation such as Marriage Certificate, Birth Certificate (Passport is accepted), and Social Security cards, for all dependents, on BenefitFocus no later than 5pm, Friday, October 16, 2020 in order for benefits to be activated effective January 1, 2021. No exceptions.

Required Documents:

If enrolling a spouse or a child/adopted child/economic dependent the following documents are required:

  • Marriage Certificate (Spouse)
  • Birth Certificate (Dependent Child)
  • Adoption Certificate (Adopted Child)
  • Affidavit of Parent - Child Relationship
  • Copies of Social Security Cards for All Dependents
  • CalPERS Form HBD-12

All of documentation must be uploaded to BenefitFocus via SSO - myportal.fhda.edu.

2021 Flexible Spending Account (FSA):

Take Action:

  • Carefully review all benefits plan options and costs before making any enrollment decisions for you and your family members.
  • When adding dependents, you are required to serve the District with the required documents such as marriage/birth certificates (passport is acceptable), and copies of social security cards for all dependents by the Open Enrollment deadline of 5pm, October 16, 2020.
  • Please contact the vendor directly for questions related to plan specifics.
  • If you have questions regarding open enrollment, please contact FHDA Benefits Unit at 650-949-6224 or via email: MyBenefits@fhda.edu. We suggest that email will be the best way to contact.
  • Open Enrollment election must be completed online by 5pm, October 16, 2020.
  • The effective date for all changes made during open enrollment will be January 1, 2021.
  • Paperwork received after October 16, 2020 deadline is not accepted
  • You may fax your documentation to Benefits Unit via fax: 650-949-6299 or pdf/email MyBenefits@fhda.edu.

If there is a discrepancy between this information and the official plan documents and contracts, the official documents will always govern.
