What does the hiring process entail?
A screening committee reviews each position that is available. After the closing date has passed, the committee will begin reviewing the applications and determining who they would like to invite for interviews. This may take several weeks after the closing date has passed. If you are selected for an interview, the screening committee will contact you. If you are not chosen, a letter will be sent to you once a candidate has been chosen and the position is filled. A letter will be sent to all applicants who are not chosen for an interview.
How do I apply?
We only accept on-line and paper applications. Applications, cover letters, resumes, and diversity statements sent by fax or e-mail will not be accepted.
The application can be completed on-line at www.fhdajobs.net/. You will receive a confirmation number once it is complete.
You can also download a paper application at http://hr.fhda.edu/employment/. Please make sure you complete the right type of application (i.e. Faculty/Management or Classified), which is dependent on the position in which you are applying.
You can also pick up an application at our Los Altos Hills Office. We are open 8 am-5 pm, Monday through Friday at:

Where should I send (deliver) my application packet?
Only paper application packets should be mailed or delivered to:
Foothill-De Anza Community College District
Employment Services
Foothill College
12345 El Monte Rd.
Los Altos Hills, CA 94022
How do I know if my application is complete?
Paper Applications: Paper applications are complete if the application and all the required supplemental information as outlined on the job announcement is submitted.
On-line Applications: If you have just completed an application, you have not applied.
On-line applications are not complete until you apply to a particular job on-line and submit all required supplemental information. If you are unable to attach documents to your application, mail (Postal Service or overnight service) documents to Employment Services.
What if my application packet is not complete?
Incomplete application packets will not be forwarded to the screening committee. The application packet must be complete in order to be considered for any opening. Applications are not reviewed until after the closing date. Applicants will not be notified if their applications are incomplete. It is the responsibility of the applicants to make sure all required documents are submitted with the application.
Do I need to include any other documents with my application?
Please review the application requirements on the job announcement to determine what documents need to be included with the application. All positions require additional documents such as the diversity statement, resume, and application. Most positions require you to submit a cover letter. Some positions also require transcripts, CDs, verification of licenses, and other miscellaneous documentation.
How do I know if a position is still open?
All of the positions listed on the District website, www.fhda.edu, are still vacant. We open and close positions on Fridays. The web site is updated every Monday.
Please note: The updating of information on web sites other than the District site may vary. Please do not use any other application method other than the FHDACCD paper or on-line applications.
How soon will I hear something regarding the status of my application?
When the position closes, all applications go through an initial screening process to ensure that the application packets are complete. Applications containing all required documents are sent to the hiring committee to review applications. Once the hiring committee starts reviewing the applications, they will contact you if they are interested in setting up an interview with you. Applications not selected will receive a letter. This process usually takes three to six weeks.
What is a diversity statement?
All positions, whether submitted on-line or on paper, require submission of a diversity statement. A diversity statement is a summary you will provide, describing your understanding, commitment, and/or experience with diversity as stated in the job announcement. This summary can be about, but is not limited to, the following types of diversity:
- Socioeconomic
- Ethnic
- Cultural
- Disability
- Religious Background
- Sexual Orientation
What does “open until filled” mean?
In general, faculty and management positions become “open until filled” after the closing date. This means that the committees will only request to see additional applications on an “as-needed” basis received under the “open until filled” status. Thus, if you submit your application after the closing date, it will only go to the committee if requested.
Can I still apply when a position is “open until filled?”
Yes, you can apply after the closing date, but your application will only be forwarded to the committee if they request additional applications.
What does the term “closing date” mean?
The closing date is the last date, (as indicated on the job announcement); we will accept applications for a position. It does not mean that the committee will begin reviewing applications on that date. If we receive your complete application by the closing date, your application, if complete, will be forwarded to the committee for review. If you submit your application after the closing date, it will not be forwarded unless the position is “open until filled” (see above). It may be several weeks (3-6 weeks average) after the closing date before the committee begins contacting individuals.
